Adding banquette seating is a great way to make use of a corner area near your kitchen. This San Diego family agreed and contacted us at Three Pines to have us design and build a custom banquette for their home. One of the reasons this family needed a custom banquette is because they are taller-than-average people. They wanted a setup that would be more comfortable for them than any of the options available from retail stores. They also wanted to be able to select the materials they wanted and have the finished product fit perfectly in their home to make the best use of their available space.
This banquette features a live-edge tabletop made from a very special Black Walnut slab that was hand selected and shipped from one of our suppliers in Northern California. I don’t think we can emphasize enough how beautiful this really slab really is. The pictures truly don’t do it justice! We carefully sanded the live edges to make them smooth, but allowed the slab to still retain its natural shape on both of the long sides of the table. The table is 84” long, 36” wide at one end, and 42” wide at the other end.
The banquette seating and the individual benches are made from premium, clear, Black Walnut, with much of it being solid wood. Some sections of the banquette seating were constructed using premium Walnut veneer plywood. Both of the banquette benches feature storage underneath. The hinged tops open up to reveal a ton of storage inside that the homeowners can use to stash away bulky items that they still want nearby.
When not in use, the two benches that are not next to the walls are able to slide under the table to create more space in the rest of the room. The long bench was designed to fit between the table legs so it can be tucked under the table completely between uses. The legs of the table and the benches are made from sturdy, powder-coated black steel.
While many banquettes are built-ins (attached to the wall of the home), this one is a freestanding furniture piece. This way, if the family ever moves from their current San Diego home, they can take their custom banquette with them.
