Bedroom dressers are pieces that are designed for function—holding your clothes and other personal items—but they can also add a lot of style to a room. This set of dressers, which was crafted in our “Smith Farms” style, has an intricate, but subtle design that adds to the farmhouse aesthetic of our clients’ home. The dressers have some rustic elements, but still have a professional, heirloom-quality about them to help elevate the look and feel of the bedroom in which they now live.
These dressers are part of a six-piece bedroom set that we built for the owners of Smith Farms. Like all of the furniture we craft, these dressers are made with quality hardwoods. The drawer boxes are constructed using dovetail joinery and the drawer fronts are made from solid hard wood.
The main portion of the dressers was painted with a lacquer paint in the color Swiss Coffee, which matches all of the trim and doors throughout the clients’ house. The hardware, which is a simple Euro bar in oil-rubbed bronze, also matches the hardware on the rest of the cabinets in the home. The base coat of paint that we applied under the lacquer paint helps hide the wood grain, but not completely mask it. We do this intentionally to avoid a “plastic” look on our painted wood furniture.
The dressers’ tops are made from solid 1” pine and are stained for a grey weathered look that matches the bed, side tables, and TV cabinet that are also in the room. They also have a polyurethane finish that makes them water resistant and easy to keep clean, without taking away from the rustic look that the homeowner was going for. (Again, we were careful to avoid a “plastic” look on the dresser tops.)
The clients we built these pieces for let us know early on in the project that they were known for “hard use” of their furniture and requested upgraded drawer slides to make the dressers extremely durable. We installed soft close drawer slides that are more than twice as strong as what we would typically put in a dresser, and our clients were thrilled with the end result! These dressers are built to last and will be able to withstand a lot of heavy use, and still look great for many, many years. The ability to accommodate requests like this is one of the things that sets apart our custom furniture from the furniture you can purchase in stores or online. You get a piece that is designed and built to your exact specifications.
“Thank you Jack for building the dressers of our dreams! They work great and perfectly match with the other bedroom furniture. Another win!” – Leslie S.
