This dresser is a unique piece that was a lot of fun to build! The design is based on a bedroom set that we designed and built many years ago. The clients saw the bedroom set and liked the inlay details in those pieces and asked us to design a dresser with similar detailing. They asked for a dresser with simple, clean lines that would work well in their rustic log cabin-style home. They indicated that they like Craftsman-style furniture, as well as the popular modern farmhouse style.
What we came up with is this large, six-drawer dresser that measures more than five feet tall and more than three feet wide. It is made from beautiful, solid, quarter sawn White Oak. The inlays, which are arranged in a chevron pattern, are made from Walnut. The dresser is built using traditional mortise and tenon construction, while the drawer boxes, which are made from standard maple, are constructed with dovetail joints. The traditional construction methods we used, as well as the high-quality drawer guides, make this dresser super sturdy! It is a piece that can definitely be passed down to future generations.
We finished this custom dresser with Odie’s Oil, a solvent free, non-toxic wood finish that protects wood from harmful UV rays. This high-quality oil also helps the beautiful details of the wood really stand out—including all of the natural colors, flecks and rays. The simple black drawer pulls that we selected complement the clean lines of the dresser and allow the wood detailing to be the “star” of the piece.
This dresser is a great example of a traditional design that has a modern twist. The clean design ensures that the piece will never go out of style, while the contrasting inlays give the piece a good amount of visual interest.
Our clients love everything about their new custom dresser! They love that no one else has one exactly like it and that it fits perfectly in their bedroom. They also had us make a blanket chest that matches the dresser to give their bedroom a more cohesive look.
