Preparing for the Western Design Conference in Wyoming this September

The 2023 Western Design Conference is getting closer, and we’re getting more and more excited for it! We’re working steadily on the four pieces we will be bringing so they will be perfect by the time we arrive in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the start of the conference on September 7^th. If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet to attend the conference, you can do so here. Day passes start as low as $30 if purchased in advance. There will be many talented artists there displaying their work—and not just custom furniture builders. There will also be fashion designers, jewelry makers, home décor artists, and more. We would love to see you there!

While we are unable to show you pictures of the pieces we will be bringing to the show at this time, we can tell you a bit about them.

The first piece will be the one we’re bringing for judging. It’s a blanket chest that is being constructed from quarter-sawn White Oak. It is designed to fit in a home with a rustic mountain style. This piece will also be for sale at the conference.

In addition to the piece that will be judged, we will also be displaying three one-of-a-kind tables in our booth in the exhibit hall. Two of the tables are being made from old-growth Curly Redwood from Northern California. We sourced the wood slabs from a respected and award-winning furniture maker who was closing his business. He had been saving these particular slabs for some special pieces of furniture, but never had the chance to use them. He sold them to Three Pines and made us promise that we would build something amazing out of them, so we are doing our best to keep that promise!

The third table we will be bringing is a round pedestal table made from Spalted Maple. This wood came from a local wood dealer who obtained it from the Midwest.

You might be wondering why we are bringing so few pieces. We considered bringing more pieces to display and sell at the conference, but because we are a custom woodworking company, our goal is not necessarily to sell a bunch of spec pieces. Rather, we want to use the pieces we are bringing as a way to showcase our capabilities and allow our work to open up conversations with potential clients for whom we can build custom pieces. Of course, if someone wants to buy our display pieces, we will be happy to sell them!

From our understanding, the people who attend the Western Design Conference are generally very discerning clients—valuing quality materials and construction, as well as unique and thoughtful design. These are exactly the types of clients we love working with, so we are hopeful that we will be making some great connections during the four days of the conference.
